This new year most of us if not all, are eager, expectant and very close to fulfilment of our divine promise, and the promise will be fulfilled as we go along.  Therefore we need to take notice of certain things in the light of the scriptures.  In this write-up, promise includes:

  • an area of earth land space, for building, farming and many other purposes.
  • physical manifestation of the fruit(s) of the womb
  • manifestation of some spiritual gifts
  • all round peace and good health
  • manifestation of many other good things of life, which we thirst for an are in accordance with the will of God for individuals.

The scriptures recorded the experience of Sarah before she got Isaac, and that of the Iraelities on their approach to the promised land.  “God said “No but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son and you shall call his name Isaac…” Gen. 17:9.  The same promise was repeated in Gen. 18:9 “…I will syurely return to you in the spring and Sarah your wife shall have a son”. Rather than Sarah claiming manifestation of this promise, she laughed.  She seemed to lack faith.  She look into consideration her advanced age.  Many women in similar position like Sarah, would behave in the same way.  Today, many people, men and women, would view their life and condition and give up on God, that no matter how hard they try, their lot cannot be better.  A psychologist, Herbert N. Casson says and I quote “Ït is better to be hopeful, even though the facts and figure are against you.”  This is because with God, all things are possible, so says the Scripture.  Therefore, when situations seem hopeless, the best thing to do is; to keep faith alive and keep your mind filled up with positive thoughts, remember your thoughts influence your decisions and actions.  “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”  Prov. 4:23.

This bring us to the issue of effect of negative reports on situation about us.  When the children of Israel were very close to the promised land they were to occupy, Moses sent spies to the land to spy it out.  Ten of the spies came back with negative and discouraging reports, while two, Joshua and Caleb came with positive and encouraging report.  This prompted the Lord to say in Num. 14:28 “say to them, as I live says the Lord, what you have said in my hearing I will do to you.”  Hence, the journey of forty days took them forty years.  Any negative and discouraging comments or reports about your situation are all from human angle, not from God.  These reports and comments can rob one of fulfilment of his/her good divine promise.

The effect of negative report is to make one mummur and be ungrateful.  The report of the ten spies, said and I quote “the land through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.” Num. 13:32.

When the fulfilment of one’s divine promises is about to manifest, one could be confronted by fearsome situations like this, and thus rob one of the promise.

We can borrow some encouraging words from the psychogist to use as affirmation.  These are

  • the wisdom behind the universe works for my good and happiness, and not for my failure and destruction
  • the wisdom that makes the sun to rise every morning and the stars to shine at night is with me and not against me
  • this wisdom is conspiring with me to make me courageous, happy and successful
  • the wisdom behind the universe is for me, not against me.

By the time one’s subconscious mind absorbs these words, he/she can face any situation no matter how fearful it may be.
